Confirmation, like Baptism and the Eucharist is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation of the Catholic Church. As the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples who were gathered on Pentecost so the Holy Spirit comes to every baptized person for whom the church requests the gift of the Holy Spirit. To be a living witness of Christ the Holy Spirit secures and strengthens us during the sacrament of Confirmation, from the Latin word "Confirmatio" which means strengthening. This is the sacrament that completes Baptism, under the signs of the impostition of hands and anointing with chrism receives the strength to witness to God's love and might in word and deed.
The matter of Confirmation is the Holy Chrism, which is the oil and the laying on of hands by the bishop or priest.
The form is "Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit."
The minister of Confirmation is usually a bishop who is the successor of the apostles. In the case where the bishop cannot be at every parish for the confirmations, he may send an ordainary priest.
The Rite of Confirmation during a mass includes The Liturgy of the word. Then to start the sacrament of Confirmation starts off with the presentation of the candidates, then is the homily and the renewal of the baptismal vows. Next is the laying on of hands and anointing of the chrism. This is when the Bishop dips his right thumb in the chrism and makes the sign of the cross on the forehead of the candidate about to be confirmed and says the form. Next is the prayer of the faithful and the concluding rites.
The Confirmation name I chose was Rose. I chose this name because it is my Nonna's name. She is a huge inspiration in my life and is so important to me. She is such a brave and holy individual and I strive to be like her one day. She has such courage and shows how anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it.
